I’m not the first person ever to train for races on three runs per week. Plenty of runners, from amateur runners to elite triathletes, use schedules that see them running three times. But there’s also a lot of scepticism around about whether you can actually train well if you run ‘only’ three times per week. We assume that more miles and more runs each week is always better.
There’s also the suggestion that you’re not as dedicated as a runner or as committed to your goals if you run three times per week. To me, this is nonsense. If you want to see dedication to a goal, it’s not just about the running but every decision and action you make that moves you towards it. It’s things like standing on one leg counting out sets of calf raises three times per week. The running part, for me, needs far less dedication.
Here’s what what I’ve found from running three days per week and training hundreds of women the same way.
