My local park has a new rule stating that dogs must be on a lead on some of the busier paths. I am understandably pro this rule having been chased by barking dogs several times while running. But many dog owners are against it.
Some have taken to pulling down the signs asking them politely to put their dogs on a lead, while others have taken to Facebook to complain. It’s not their fault that their dogs aren’t under control - it’s the fault of cyclists and those runners. “Those runners” they say, as though we’re all the same.
We’re not all the same.
We have one thing in common: we run. But the speed at which we do that, the routes we take, the number of times we head out each week and the colour of our favourite running socks, to name just a few things, are all different. So to expect that we might all experience running in the same way, and enjoy the same aspects of it is unrealistic.
Learning to enjoy running means finding what works for you.
