Download: Faster Half Marathon Plan
A 12-week training plan for running a half marathon a bit quicker.
It’s around now that autumn half marathon training starts. Or at least the planning of it does. I’ve been looking back on my half marathon training from last year to plan my training for this year. It’s probably going to be very similar training, but I still think I can go a bit faster.
There’s a common misconception in running that in order to improve, you always have to do more or do something different. But actually, just following the same plan that worked for you last time can still yield great improvements. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel all the time.
You’re a different runner every time you follow a plan, you’ve accumulated more miles, you have more experience and your overall pace may have increased. So even following the exact same training plan, your training is going to be different.
There is a collection of training plans available for paid subscribers to download here.
Half marathon training plan
I’ve taken a year off from writing individual training plans or coaching the Marathon Squad, but from years of working with runners June still feels like the time I should be writing training plans. So I’ve written a half marathon plan in case you’re in need of one. It’s aimed at runners who have run one or two half marathons, though you could use it for your first half-marathon if your mileage is similar to where the plan starts.
The plan is very similar to the training I did for my half last year and will do again this year, it just has slightly lower mileage than I did. But not by much.
